Mapping

May 30, 2013

I showed some new work at Arts Alive, Crickhowell, Powis over the Bank Holiday weekend as part of the Open Studios and Galleries, along with sketch books. notes and reference material. Some of the work is still in progress, but I wanted to get it shown and get some reactions.  All positive I have to say!

I am exploring some ideas that describe personal maps of the landscape I have been walking through over the course of a year: both a physical and emotional mapping.  On these familiar local routes I notice different things, the weather, light and colours that change from day to day.  My thoughts and moods may be different, too, at different times.  I’ve collated these words and images in sketchbooks and have started some paintings using collage and drawing materials along with acrylics. The lettering varies in size, so you really have to study them to find some of the words.  (click on the images to get more detail)
